우리는 살아가며 종종 하나님께서 일하시는 타이밍에 의문을 품곤 합니다. 고통의 터널을 지날 때는 “하나님, 왜 이렇게 늦으십니까?”라고 부르짖고, 때로는 우리가 준비되지 않았다고 느낄 때 찾아오는 변화 앞에서 “하나님, 아직은 너무 이릅니다”라고 뒷걸음질 치기도 합니다. 우리의 시선으로 볼 때 하나님의 일하심은 때로 너무 느리거나, 혹은 너무 갑작스러워 보입니다.
그러나 갈라디아서 4:4은 분명하게 선포합니다.
“그러나 기한이 찼을 때에, 하나님께서는 자기 아들을 보내셔서, 여자에게서 나게 하시고, 또한 율법 아래에 놓이게 하셨습니다.” (새번역)
하나님께서는 ‘기한이 찼을 때에’ 자기 아들을 보내셨습니다. 여기서 ‘기한이 찼다’는 것은 단순히 시간이 흘러 때가 되었다는 의미를 넘어, 하나님의 구원 계획 속에서 가장 적절하고 가장 완벽한 ‘충만한 때’가 되었음을 의미합니다.
인류의 역사 속에서 누군가는 메시아의 오심이 너무 늦었다고 불평했을지도 모릅니다. 죄와 절망이 세상을 뒤덮은 지 너무나 오랜 시간이 흘렀기 때문입니다. 하지만 하나님의 일하심에는 결코 실수가 없으십니다. 하나님은 그분의 무한한 지혜로 인류 역사 속에서 가장 적당한 시기에 예수님을 보내셨고, 그 완전한 타이밍을 통해 우리의 온전한 구원을 이루셨습니다.
우리는 지금도 여전히 내 뜻과 내 속도대로 일이 풀리지 않을 때 불만을 품거나 조급해하곤 합니다. 하지만 우리가 기억해야 할 사실이 있습니다. 예수님을 가장 적절한 때에 보내셔서 우리를 구원하신 그 하나님께서, 지금 우리의 삶 속에서도 여전히 “가장 선한 타이밍”에 일하고 계신다는 사실입니다.
이번 성탄 시즌, 우리 마음속의 조급함을 하나님 앞에 내려놓기를 원합니다. 우리의 이해를 뛰어넘는 하나님의 완전하신 지혜를 신뢰하십시오. 하나님은 결코 너무 이르시거나 늦지 않으시며, 결코 실수하시지도 않으십니다. 언제나 가장 적당한 때에 가장 좋은 것으로 응답하시는 하나님을 기억하며, 그분의 완전하신 계획 안에서 참된 안식을 누리는 복된 성탄이 되시기를 축복합니다.
As we go through life, we often find ourselves questioning God’s timing. When we walk through the tunnel of suffering, we cry out, “God, why are You so late?” And at other times, when change arrives before we feel ready, we step back and say, “God, it’s still too soon.” From our perspective, God’s work can sometimes seem either too slow or too sudden.
But Galatians 4:4 proclaims with clarity:
“But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law,” (ESV)
God sent His Son “When the fullness of time had come.” This expression means far more than that enough time had passed; it points to the fullness of time, the most fitting and perfect moment in God’s plan of salvation.
Throughout human history, some may have thought the coming of the Messiah was too late because sin and despair had long covered the earth. Yet, in all of God’s workings, there are no mistakes. In His infinite wisdom, God sent Jesus at the most opportune moment in human history. Through that perfect timing, He brought about our complete salvation.
Even now, when things fail to unfold according to our schedule or desires, we become restless or impatient. But there is something we must remember: the same God who sent Jesus at the perfect time for our salvation is still working in our lives today—always in the best possible timing.
This Christmas season, may we lay down our impatience before God. Let us trust His perfect wisdom that surpasses our understanding. God is never early or late, and He never errs. May we remember the God who answers with what is best at the right time and find true rest in Him who works everything according to His perfect plan.
